"My husband and I were actually joking the other day," says Leura Fine, founder and CEO of Laurel & Wolf. "I was like, 'I think I’m going to call this house like Neo Traditionalist Rustic Ranch Chic.'"

Indeed, when you peruse the interiors of her newly-decorated home in Cheviot Hills, Los Angeles (which she decorated in under three months, no less), it's mesmerizing how many design styles, colors and patterns seamlessly come together. But that's what happens when you're a bonafide interior design maven.

The CEO of Laurel & Wolf, one of the world's leading online interior design services, Fine founded the company in 2014 in the efforts of democratizing the interior design process — making it more affordable, more inclusive, and better at connecting clients with fresh design talent.

Considering that nearly everything in her home was curated using Laurel & Wolf's online shopping tools, her new space is not only a testament to her skills as an interior designer, but also the modern age of design. 1. Don't be afraid to go digital.

Fine's space is proof that you can shop online for furniture without things turning into a serious decorating disaster. "I think that as a designer and, especially today in 2017, you have to be able to shop online for your clients," Fine says "It’s just not a good use of time to traipse around and look at things in person."

Fine was able to purchase everything from her drapery and wallpapers down to the sofas and rugs using Laurel & Wolf's online shopping system, with access to over hundreds of vendors.

A few of her favorites? Wallshoppe and Phillip Jeffries for the wallpaper, Fabricut for the drapery and Loloi for the rugs.

2. Let color set the tone.

While Fine's space marries many design styles, from touches of rustic to Mediterranean, one thing that remains consistent: the color. Beautiful shades of blue and green fill the home, each hue invoking a different feeling.

The formal living room, for example, with its walls painted in Behr's Hostaleaf has a darker, sexier vibe. "When we have dinner parties, we always start in there, and we have the champagne and appetizers and it just feels so cozy and rich," Fine says.

Whereas the family room, with its walls in Behr's Echo Park, is a lot sunnier, complementing the open space leading to the big white kitchen.

"I thought it would be fun to go with those happier blues," Fine says. "Still soothing, cool tones but a little bit fresher and a little bit brighter."

3. Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize.

By keeping the color palette consistent and the furniture fairly transitional, Fine was able to play up her eclectic collection of home accessories, most of which were picked up during travels with her husband.

"People come in, and it’s this really weird dark room that’s got all these really exotic elements," Fine says. "It lends itself to telling stories and starting conversations."

Over the fireplace in the formal living room, you'll find an old Moroccan mirror, and an old Moroccan gun once belonging to a Berber tribe from the 1500s hangs over the arched doorway. On another wall, you'll find a group of African masks collected from the couple's honeymoon when they were on safari in Africa.

While most of Fine's exotic collections are displayed in the formal living room, the great thing about smaller souvenirs or accessories is that they can live almost anywhere in your home.

"It’s not just about the statement pieces," she says. "Those little tiny details do help bring a space together."

4. Make room for statement pieces.

Fine was also able to incorporate old family heirlooms effortlessly into the space. Her grandmother was an artist and sculptor, so you'll find many of her pieces throughout the house, including two paintings by the side of the fireplace as well as a couple of bronze sculptures that sit on the coffee table.

That saddle in the formal living room also comes with some interesting history: Fine's great-great grandmother, who started her own hotel business, was also a lover of horses and riding. When the old saddle was found gathering dust in the attic, Fine's mother had it restored and gifted it to her for her 30th birthday. Not only does the piece serve incredible sentimental value, it also adds texture to the space.

5. Follow your heart.

"I really love a four-poster bed with drapery. I think that was maybe the one furniture item in the entire house that I knew from day one I had to have," Fine says.

Don't be afraid to turn your design aspirations into reality. After all, the point of interior design is to bring your imagination to life.

Fine made hers possible with a gorgeous four-poster bed from Restoration Hardware, and simple, chic Fabricut linens and Parachute Home bedding.

"I feel like a princess every time I get in the bed at night. It's just so cozy and sexy at the same time," she adds.

Bottom line: No dream is too big (or too small) when it comes to good design.
